Changes to the WorkSafeBC Occupational Health and Safety Regulation (the Regulation) in British Columbia have expanded the regulatory requirements for infectious diseases beyond blood and body fluids. Preventive action is now required for any infectious disease that is found in the workplace and may pose a risk to workers. Employers in BC are required by law to ensure that work is being conducted safely, and to protect their workers from all work-related hazards, including exposure to infectious diseases. Section 115 of the Workers Compensation Act specifies that employers are not only responsible for their own workers, but also for any other workers who may be present at their workplace. Employees who work in the Health Care or the Social Services Industry are at a greater risk of exposure to infectious diseases, such as HIV and Hepatitis A, B, or C. One such exposure risk can come from coming across used sharps in the workplace (i.e. syringes, crack pipes, etc.) and not knowing how to safely dispose of these sharps can be harmful. This 4 hour course will educate workers on what to do when you come across sharps in the workplace and how to safely dispose of the sharps. Some of the materials covered during the course will be topics such as risks of coming across used sharps, risks involved with disposal of used sharps, factual knowledge - common communicable diseases, risk identification and assessment, personal protective equipment, preventing risk of exposure to blood-borne pathogens, sharps disposal - safe work procedures and accidental exposure procedures.
Our classroom Bloodborne Pathogens Training BC 4 hour course is in full compliance with the BC Occupational Health and Safety Regulations & Workers Compensation Act. This is a 4 hour course with a 15 minute break in between. BLOODBORNE PATHOHGENS & SAFE SHARPS DISPOSAL TRAINING MODULES
