So how do you obtain a positive culture in your workplace? It all begins with strong leadership and having the right attitudes towards safety. A safety culture consists of "shared" beliefs, practices and mind-sets that exist at an organization and form an atmosphere of attitudes that shape behavior in a positive way. A positive safety culture in the workplace cannot be forced nor can it be protected, no matter how much you try. Through our experience, these types of endeavors will eventually fail. You cannot force someone to think a certain way and you definitely cannot force someone to share the same beliefs as you. You can set a positive example for someone where they eventually will want to personally change their own beliefs and attitude. So remember, good safety leaders are made, not born. This classroom speaking session will definitely make participants think deeply about their beliefs towards safety and hopefully will help change their mindset towards a more positive safety direction.
