https://www.ggsafetyconsulting.com/safety-programs.html ALL BUSINESSES IN B.C. ARE REQUIRED BY LAW TO HAVE A WRITTEN OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY PROGRAM IN PLACE. FAILURE TO DO SO COULD RESULT IN YOUR COMPANY RECEIVING FINES, PENALTIES, SANCTIONS OR STOP WORK ORDERS. According to the Workers Compensation Act and the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation, it’s the employer’s responsibility to implement an occupational health and safety (OHS) program to prevent employee workplace injury and disease. OHS safety programs in British Columbia must meet certain safety standards. The employer must exercise due diligence in taking steps to meet those standards. You must have a 'formal' health and safety program if you have either a workforce of 20 or more workers and at least one workplace where there is a moderate or high risk of injury and when you have a workforce of 50 or more workers. Small businesses or employers with fewer than 20 workers need a health and safety program too. These programs can be simpler. We refer to them as "informal" health and safety programs. Health and safety programs are aimed at ensuring workers are protected, risks are minimized, and a healthy and safe workplace is maintained. All employers must establish some form of health and safety program at the workplace. The type of program you need depends on the number of workers you have and the risks associated with their work. Though every workplace and every occupational health and safety (OHS) program are different, there are some key elements common to all programs. Our professional and certified Health and Safety Consultants are able to develop your small or large business a complete written occupational health and safety program specific to your companies operations, specific to your industry and which will meet with all WorkSafeBC legislative requirements. (https://www.ggsafetyconsulting.com/supervisor-responsibilities-and-due-diligence-training.html) Supervisor Responsibilities and Due Diligence Training in Vancouver BC. Supervisors play an important role in promoting and maintaining workplace safety. Their words and actions demonstrate how they view and value health and safety. The supervisor's attitude influences how workers approach and practice safety on the job; to them the supervisor's attitude reflects the company's values. A supervisor is anyone who instructs, directs, and controls workers as they carry out their work tasks. This could include owners, managers, superintendents, charge hands, lead hands, foremen, department heads, journeymen, and trainers. Supervisors are well-positioned to be safety champions. Effective supervisors are intentional and purposeful in promoting health and safety. They should perform regular safety activities, such as safety inspections, observations, accident and incident investigations, or crew safety talks. Other activities may be linked to annual departmental safety plans. Due Diligence is taking all reasonable care to protect the well-being of employees and co-workers. (https://www.ggsafetyconsulting.com/lock-out-tag-out-training.html) Lock Out / Tag Out Training in Vancouver BC. Every year, workers in British Columbia are killed or seriously injured because machinery or equipment was not properly locked out. For example, accidents where workers are caught in machinery can result in severed fingers, crushed limbs, or death. Accidents can be prevented if machinery is locked out properly before obstructions are cleared or other maintenance work is done. Electrical shock, burns, and electrocution can also result if electrical equipment is not properly locked out. Equipment that is not de-energized and locked out can unexpectedly start when maintenance work is being done, which can result in serious injuries. De-energization is the removing of energy from machinery or equipment. Lockout is the use of lock(s) to render machinery or equipment inoperable or to isolate an energy source in accordance with a written procedure. Maintenance is any work performed to keep machinery or equipment in a safe operating condition. This includes installing, repairing, cleaning, and lubricating the equipment, as well as clearing obstructions to the normal flow of material. This half day 4 hour course, will explain the importance of lock-out in protecting workers who operate machinery and equipment in BC. This course will also cover specific procedures on how to protect employees from unexpected energization or start-up of machinery and equipment, or the release of hazardous energy during service or maintenance activities. (https://www.ggsafetyconsulting.com/confined-space-entry-training.html) Confined Space Entry Awareness Training in Vancouver BC. Confined spaces in the workplace pose a significant risk of injury and death. Hazards in confined spaces can result in fire, explosion, unconsciousness, asphyxiation, or drowning. Confined space incidents can happen suddenly, often without any warning that something is wrong. Employers must take the necessary steps to ensure worker safety around confined spaces. A confined space is an enclosed or partially enclosed area that is big enough for a worker to enter. The space may be enclosed on all sides (for example, a bin or tank), or as few as two sides (for example, an enclosed conveyor). Confined spaces are not designed for someone to work in regularly. They are places where entry may be needed from time to time for inspection, cleaning, maintenance, or repair. The Occupational Health and Safety Regulation in BC requires the employer must ensure that each confined space in the workplace is identified, and determine whether any such space will require entry by a worker, either in scheduled work activities or as a result of foreseeable system failures or other emergencies. The employer must also ensure that all confined space hazards are eliminated or minimized and that work is performed in a safe manner. This full day 8 hour course, engages and instructs participants, in properly identifying and assessing confined spaces, ensuring entry plans are in place and the plans are followed, and work performed within a confined is completed safely and efficiently. Bullying and Harassment Training in Vancouver BC. In November 2013, the British Columbia’s Workers Compensation Act was amended to include three new policies addressing workplace bullying and harassment. Sections 115, 116 and 117 of the Act set out the general duties of employers, workers and supervisors. All employers in BC are required to train their Supervisors and Employees on recognizing the potential for bullying and harassment, responding to bullying and harassment, and procedures on reporting bullying and harassment incidents. Bullying and harassment in the workplace can take many forms, including verbal aggression, personal attacks, and other intimidating or humiliating behaviors. If workplace bullying and harassment is not addressed, it can lead to lost productivity, anxiety, and depression. An employer has a duty to ensure the health and safety of its workers, and as a result, employers must take all reasonable steps to prevent where possible, or otherwise minimize, workplace bullying and harassment. Workplace bullying and harassment can lead to injury, illness or death. Our 4-hour Bullying and Harassment Training Course in Vancouver BC also includes sections on sexual harassment (human rights code) in the workplace. Joint Health and Safety Committee Training Vancouver BC. As of April 03, 2017 WorkSafeBC requires that all potential joint committee members in BC must receive 8 hours of instruction and training. GG Health and Safety Consulting is proud to present our 8 hour joint health and safety committee (JOSH Committee) course which meets and exceeds all new WorkSafeBC requirements. The joint health and safety committee supports the employer's duty to ensure a healthy and safe workplace. The joint committee brings together representatives of the employer and the workers, to identify and help resolve health and safety issues in the workplace. The joint committee plays an important role in your occupational health and safety program, giving workers and employers a way to work together to identify and find solutions to workplace health and safety issues. Any workplace with 20 or more employees must have a health and safety committee, while those with between 10 and 19 workers must have a designated worker health and safety representative. This course aims at helping participants to identify and interpret JHSC member's functions and duties and to carry out their responsibilities to promote workplace health and safety. This full day 8 hour course, will assist employers and participants on how to start-up a committee at your workplace, how to effectively implement a JHSC, duties and functions of members and as a team, and the OHSR regulation. Fall Protection Training in Vancouver BC. Falls from heights, even relatively low elevations, can result in serious injuries. The proper use of fall protection equipment, in addition to planning, supervision, and training, can reduce or eliminate the risk of falling. Anyone who routinely works at elevations is susceptible to sustaining serious injuries, even death, as a result of inadequate or missing fall protection. For workers on an unguarded platform more than 3 m (10 ft.) from the ground to those constructing high-rise buildings, proper fall protection is an important issue and mandatory under the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations in BC. The Regulation is clear: fall protection must be used whenever a worker is at risk of falling 3 m or more. In addition, before workers begin a job, they must be thoroughly trained in the proper use of the fall protection system they will be using. WorkSafeBC Occupational Health and Safety Regulation requires workers in BC to use a fall protection system where they could fall at least 3 m (10 ft.) or where a fall from a lesser height may result in serious injury. This half day 4 hour fall protection training course engages and instructs workers, who use fall arrest and fall restraint equipment and systems, on the proper methods to ensure safety. Topics covered will be OHSR legislation, introduction, fall protection hierarchy, guardrail systems, control zone systems, fall restraint systems, fall arrest systems, inspections of equipment, anchor criteria, full body harness and fitting, lanyards, shock absorber, connectors, carabiners, donning practice and partner check.
