​Joint Health and Safety Committees in BC play a vital role in an employer’s occupational health and safety program by identifying and finding solutions to workplace health and safety issues. Many workplaces in BC find that joint worker and employer health and safety committees are an excellent means of consultation within the organization. These committees can help identify workplace health and safety responsibilities, establish positive attitudes, and assist the employer with reducing and eliminating workplace injuries and diseases. 

By law in BC, if your workplace has 20 or more workers then as per WorkSafeBC regulations, the employer must have a Joint Health and Safety Committee in place. WorkSafeBC’s new 2017 regulations on Joint Health and Safety Committees state that all new joint health and safety committee members must receive 8 hours of training and instruction by a qualified instructor.
